Castles are monuments of some older times of which we often think as- beautiful times. They remind us of fairy tales, princes and princesses who danced endlessly to the soft sounds of classical tunes… It seems like memories of other people are writtenCheck Out Below :
into the walls of old castles and we cannot stop wondering- how was the life for them in that castle? What were their daily routines? Were they really that noble or is it just what we were taught to think? Whatever the case is, castles will always be fascinating.

Castle Howard in Yorkshire is one of the prettiest and biggest private residences in Britain. It is very old too! This castle has been home to the Howard family for over 300 years. Can you imagine that? This beautiful castle was build in the late 17th century and became open to the public in 1951. A castle with such great tradition must look even more lovely live.

Castle Hohenschwangau in Germany! The full name of this old beauty is Schloss Hohenschwangau and it dates form 19th century. This castle was the summer home of Maximilian, King of Prussia. During both world wars, this castle suffered no damage, largely due to its remote location. Currently, it is maintained by the grandson of Maximilian, Franz, the Duke of Bavaria. This really popular castle receives more than 300,000 visitors per year!

Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany was a personal refuge for Ludwig II of Bavaria. However, after he died, this fantastic and breath taking castle became open to public and since 1886 it has received 60 million visitors. It’s estimated that over 1.3 million people visit this wonder each year! It s reasonable, since it looks like someone should save the Goldilocks form the top tower.

Château de Chambord in France was built to serve as a hunting lodge for Francois I. it has a very unique French Renaissance architecture and it is very, very big. The original designer of this castle is up for debate, although many give credit to Domenico da Cortona, who created a wooden model in the late 17th century. In 2007, this castle was opened to the public and from that period it has attracted more than 700,000 visitors. Not bad for a hunting lodge!

Osaka Castle in Japan is one of Japan’s most famous castles. Osaka castle has an exterior made of five stories and interior that is consisted of eight stories. It sits on over 1 square kilometer of land over looking a moat. It was build to protect its occupants from attackers in 16th century, and therefore it was built on the top of a very tall stone foundation.

Kilkenny Castle in Ireland was built in 1195, by William Marshal. During the Irish Civil War the castle suffered significant damage, and much of the 20th century was spent restoring its’ beauty. Now it mostly serves as a conference and graduation venue. It is kind of pity it doesn’t serve for something else though, since it looks like a mighty and powerful old castle. But hey, graduation is a mighty moment in one’s life, right?

Schloss Moritzburg in Germany was named after Duke Moritz of Saxony. The building was used as a summer home for the Duke of Saxony and its’ electors. This castle has served as a site for many movies and commercials in Europe. Its’ large campus was built on artificial land and is surrounded by woodlands used for hunting? We bet you didn’t know that! So if you visit Germany, be sure to visit this place!

Castillo de Coca in Spain was built on the place where ancient Cauca, the birthplace of the Roman emperor Theodosius was. The area is surrounded by vast pine forests, which serve as a big economic driver to the region. Now, this beautiful castle serves as a training school for foresters. We hope these foresters know how to appreciate the castle as we definitely would.

Kronborg Castle in Denmark was built in 1420 and it is one of the most important fortifications in Northern Europe. It is located on the extreme most Northern tip on the Island of Zealand. This castle is also famous for being mentioned in William Shakespeare’s Hamlet as Elsinore. During the early 20th century it was used by the army, and opened to the public in 1938.\

Edinburgh Castle in Scotland dates from 12th century and it is a remarkable palace located upon the volcanic Castle Rock. Archeologist have been able to trace human existence is the location all the way to 2nd Century AD. As many building in the early 20th century, it was utilized by the army as a prison and garrison. It also has become a real and recognizable symbol of Edinburgh.

Château de Versailles in France is one of the most famous castles in the world. It is almost impossible not to visit it when visiting France. It was designed and built by the great Louis XIV as the new center of the French Government. Many don’t know that it is located only a short hour from Paris by train. No wonder because this famous piece of royal living has 2300 rooms, 67 staircases and 5210 pieces of furniture!

Prague Castle in Czech Republic is a real beauty in the world of royalties around the globe. It is considered the largest ancient castle in the whole world, which is at least what the Guinness Book of Records says. And who are we to oppose! Located in the Hradčany district of Prague, it still remains the home of the Czech President. Prague Castle is 70 000 has square meters which makes you really want to visit it this moment, right?

Bodiam Castlein United Kingdom was built by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge in 14th century. Actually this incredible castle was built to defend this English area against French invasion during the Hundred Years’ War. It was considered a marvel at the time due to its’ drainage system, which delivered waste directly into the moat. So it is beautiful and practical in case you need to defend a part of your country against the French.

Chateau de Chillon in Switzerland looks like a perfect material for postcard. Preferably, from Switzerland. Not only is this Switzerland’s most visited castle, it is open to the public for tours and considered Switzerland’s most visited historic monument. This is actually an island castle that consist of 100 individual buildings. They all make a great team though, because today they are merged into one palace, and it is the very one from this fantastic photo.

Catherine Palace in Russia as a real treat for the end of the list. It was built as a summer palace for the pleasure for Catherine I of Russia in 1717. Even though it was always this beautiful and breath taking, it was actually redesigned in 1752, to Rococo style. Today, it is used for grand concerts and exclusive parties. Most recently Elton John held a private concert there in 2005 with many esteemed guests.
